Castor Hetfield and fellow Bastardane band members released their new album Is This Rage? on March 12, 2022. Hetfield, son of Metallica frontman James Hetfield, follows in his father’s footsteps in pursuing a musical career, though Castor Hetfield is a drummer.
Where James Hetfield and Metallica forged the road for heavy metal as a genre, son Castor Hetfield and Bastardane tackle stoner rock, which is a crossroads between metal and psychedelic rock. As such, Bastardane takes inspiration from rock of the late 1960s as well as the 1980s, among others. The album is also almost grungy in its interpretation of stoner rock.
In an interview for The Hum, Bastardane members introduced themselves and their intentions in the music scene: “We are BASTARDANE and we are not some average chump white male band looking to get laid… We just want to make emotionally empowering music that isn’t trying to cater to a certain audience. Our career is about making people happy and fulfilling the emotional needs of those who cant tolerate words alone.”
Bastardane had their start in Savannah, Ga. by performing at college parties and clubs. They credit their budding success to the Savannah College of Art and Design students and the metal scene in Savannah. They intend on setting up a base in Nashville shortly. In the meantime, they will continue to perform at venues large and small. They have landed the opener’s spot for the Bottlerock festival on May 27, 2022, a festival headlined by Metallica. They will also be playing in Venice, Calif. On June 7, 2022.
