The xx’s bassist and vocalist Oliver Sim released his first solo release today with single “Romance With A Memory.” He worked with Jamie xx on the track.
The broody yet fun track marks Sim’s first solo song – officially conquering his fear with its release.
“It’s very easy for me to slip into autopilot and make very deep, broody, woe is me music, but this was real fun to make. And that’s what I get when I listen to it. It’s both fun, you can dance to it, but at its core is self-deprecating and perverse, my favorite combination in anything,” he said.
He continued, “It’s my first song, not with the band, but on my own. We spent the past hour talking about horror and fear and the things that scare us, and this is the thing that probably scares me the most, sharing my own music under my own name. And as I love being a part of the band and it hasn’t really been a longstanding dream of mine to make music outside of it, but I’d love to make music”
The xx were formed in London in 2005, with Romy Madley Croft and Sim on guitar and vocals, Smith on record production and formerly Baria Qureshi on keyboard.
