Independent music publishing label Primary Wave Music receive the estates of late band members Layne Staley and Mike Starr of Alice In Chains. According to Blabbermouth, Primary Wave Music’s CEO David Weitzman states: “Primary Wave is pleased to partner with the estates of Layne Staley and Mike Starr to honor their musical legacies as part of the classic era lineup of ALICE IN CHAINS, who created the amazing songs and records that comprise the albums ‘Dirt’ and ‘Facelift’, and the acoustic EPs ‘Jar Of Flies’ and ‘Sap’. These projects represent the greatest works from one of the best artists of the iconic Nineties Seattle-based grunge era.”

Other royalties acquired by the label include “Man In The Box”, “Rooster” and “No Excuses”, as well as their hit recording “Would?” which appeared in the film “Singles.” As part of the deal, Primary Wave Music will dole out access to the entire marketing team, digital team, branding team and publishing infrastructure for estates of the late great rock stars Starr and Staley. Publishing infrastructure does not equate to but includes licensing and synch opportunities.

Grunge era, with its heavy punk rock and heavy metal influences, peaked with the late 1990s band Alice In Chains as evident from their numerous platinum, multi-platinum and Grammy-nominated hit records. Staley’s fight against addiction brought Alice In Chains to a halt in 1996, but the band rekindled in 2006 with Vocalist William Duval, according to Blabbermouth. They continued to tour in the early 200s and guitarist, Jerry Cantrell, is still releasing new content with his latest hypnotic track release last October entitled “Siren Song”, according to mxdwn.
