Ty Segall appears to be wonderfully surprising his fans with new music. In August 2021, Segall surprised fans by releasing his album Harmonizer. The next month, he released an eccentric music video for “Harmonizer”, the album’s title track. This time, Segall has announced that he will complete the soundtrack for the 2020 documentary Whirlybird, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was directed by TV director Matt Yoka.
The multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter previously worked on the theme song of Comedy Central’s television series Corporate and now he will complete the score for Whirlybird. The documentary is about Zoey Tur, who is known for her broadcast reporting of the infamous OJ Simpson Bronco police chase that took place in 1994. The film will also be about Marika Gerrard, who is also a journalist and the ex-wife of Tur.
According to BrooklynVegan, Segall’s soundtrack will be released on February 22 via Drag City. Lately, Segall chose to share “Story of the Century, a new single from the soundtrack.
“Story of the Century” is an instrumental that is about 6 minutes long. It is certainly an upbeat song that includes percussion that almost makes your heart race, as well as Mikal Cronin on the saxophone. One can only wonder what action-packed scene this song will be featured in. The song seems to build up to something chaotic and then it slows down as if the action has finally ceased.
The new heart-racing single will definitely encourage fans to watch the film. February can’t come fast enough!
