It’s only a few weeks in, but 2022 promises to be another wild year. Today on the 2022 bingo card: The US Army used a quote by indie-pop star Lana Del Ray for one of their recruitment ads. The post went online on Saturday, January 22, according to Consequences.
The post shows a young female soldier crawling on the floor while wearing face paint. Just above the picture it says, “Being brave means knowing that when you fail, you don’t fail forever,” a quote by Del Ray. When you google it, the quote also shows up as girl boss mantra.

The controversial advertisment has faced backlash from all sides ever since going viral. One person pointed out that, Del Ray once declined the Army’s offer to sponsor her video and use it for recruitment purposes.
Lol years ago I was going to direct a LDR music video. The theme was WWII to present-day military Americana. Like some Marilyn Monroe USO shit. The Army was going to finance it. Tanks, helicopters, the works. But Army wanted to use the video for recruiting and LDR said fuck that. https://t.co/t61nPHY5CR

The backlash comes only a few days after the HBOMax hit show Euphoria featured Del Rey’s newest single, “Watercolor Eyes.” Last year, she released her newest album Blue Bannister.
