Marissa Nadler is an American musician based in Boston, Massachusetts. She’s been active in music since 2000. Her music has been described as indie rock, folk and dream pop. Some popular album releases of hers include Ballads of Living and Dying (2004), The Saga of Mayflower May (2005), Songs III: Bird on the Water (2007) and For My Crimes (2018). She also released two albums last year, the first is cover album titled, Instead Of Dreaming, the other being her ninth solo album, The Path of the Clouds.
The artist has announced her new EP, The Wrath of the Clouds. The EP is scheduled to be released on February 4 on Sacred Bones and Bella Union. Along with the exciting EP news, she also shared cover of “Seabird” by the Alessi Brothers. This track feels like a dream. It literally exudes an overwhelming sense of serenity. There’s definitely a feeling of melancholy as well, the song is about a distant lover. The lyrics depict this beautifully, “Like a ghost, you haunt me// You find warmth in a one-night bed.” Nadler’s vocals are both soothing and sad, adding to the song and it’s message. The calming instrumental must be taken into account as well, it develops one hell of an ambience.
The EP is made up of three original tracks and and two covers. Though with some similarities to her last release, a deeper dive is taken here, showing off Nadler’s astonishing song writing abilities. These tracks are “Guns on the Sundeck,” “All the Eclipses” and “Some Secret Existence.” She then wraps up The Wrath of the Clouds with two covers, showing the audience her skill of making covers sound like her own.
On the album, Nadler said,
“Once I had finished the album, these two covers were on the top of my list. These were a really nice capping off to the season of this writing.”
The Wrath of the Clouds comes out February 4, but is also available for pre-order. The full track list can be viewed below.
