Warner Chappell Buys David Bowie’s Catalogue For $250 Million

The entire musical catalog of singer, songwriter and musician David Bowie has officially been sold by his estate. According to Stereogum, Bowie’s catalog will now be owned by music publishing company Warner Chappell, who has agreed to pay $250 million in exchange for the eminent musician’s work.

The deal has followed a long series of negotiations from Bowie’s estate with various music companies. Previous estimates of the selling price of Bowie’s catalog hovered at around $200 million. While the value of Bowie’s catalog seems to have risen, it still did not reach the price of musicians such as Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, whose catalogs were sold at prices of $550 million and $300 million respectively.

The decision comes nearly six years after Bowie’s passing in January of 2016. David Bowie’s estate has continued to promote his work and music after his passing, including through the sharing of Bowie’s previously unreleased music
