Even though Beach Handball is a rather unknown sport in the U.S. one sports team made headlines this month. The Norwegian women’s team was fined by the European Handball Federation for violating the organization’s uniform regulation. The team wore shorts to a game instead of the mandatory bikini bottom. The rules state that women are required to play in a sports bra and bikini bottoms, while men are allowed to wear shorts and a shirt-like vest.
It looks like pop singer Pink got aware of the headlines and stated her support for the Norwegian Beach Handball team during a tweet. She also calls the rules and the organization “sexist.” Further the artist announced she would be happy to pay the teams 1,500 Euro fine, according to The Guardian. The handball team later replied to the singer and thanked her for her support. It’s unclear if the team really accepted the donation.
This is not the first time the singer stood behind a good cause. For years the singer is also known as philanthropist and donating to various causes around the globe. In the beginning of last year, the singer songwriter pledged $500,000 to Australian fire fighters during the devastating bush fires. She was joined by other artists like metal band Metallica and pop icon Elton John.
The “U + UR Hand” singer is also not new to female empowerment, often hailed as a front woman of feminism and girl power. When President Biden announced his running mate would be Vice President Kamala Harris, the first ever woman of color on a presidential ticket, the singer got very excited “crying tears of joy.”
The singer was also one of the first celebrities warning about the seriousness of COVID-19 after she and her family contracted the virus. She has been quite public about her experience and even rewrote her will while she was sick.
Pink has also announced a new album All I Know This Far. She already released the first single off the album with another very girl-power theme. In the title track to the album, Pink sings the lines “I wish someone would’ve told me that this darkness comes and goes/ People will pretend but baby girl nobody knows/ And even I can’t teach you how to fly/ But I can show you how to live like your life is on the line.”
