Primus Announces Rescheduled Summer 2021 A Tribute To Kings Tour Dates with The Sword and Wolfmother

After postponing their A Tribute to Kings tour three times, Primus has announced rescheduled tour dates for August-October 2021. They’ll be playing through all of Rush’s 1977 classic album A Farewell to Kings in full along with some of their own songs.

They’d first considered the tour in 2019 before deciding to join Slayer on their final tour instead. Primus officially announced A Tribute to Kings in early 2020 with dates during the summer, but it’s easy to guess what happened next – it was postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first rescheduling lined up concerts for May-August this year, but due to concern over the ongoing pandemic restrictions, Primus had delayed them once again. This time, it’s just for a few months, so it’s beginning around the time it was supposed to finish.

Experimental rock band Battles was set to join them for some of the dates according to the initial announcement and early summer 2021 concerts, but they’re no longer able to join them for the new dates. Wolfmother will still open for Primus each night and The Sword will join them for select dates, which mostly fall in September.

Primus announced the new dates by saying, “It’s been too long and Primus is excited to get back out on the road. We continue to monitor government restrictions and current health & safety protocols to bring A Tribute To Kings out on the road in 2021. With that said, we have slightly shifted the tour to begin in August and run through October. Check out the list of newly rescheduled dates. All original tickets will be honored. For those not able to attend newly rescheduled dates, a refund window is now available for the next 30 days from the original point of purchase.”

The band also had to announce that some of the intended dates had to be canceled, including Toronto on the grounds laid out by international travel advisories. However, Primus hopes to tour several Canadian cities in 2022. Lafayette and Minneapolis were also dropped from their immediate plans due to calendar restrictions, but refunds will be available from point of purchase and more information can be found here.

Frontman Les Clayton also had his own comment to make to fans, “Finally, the clouds are parting, the planets are aligning, the dough is rising…whatever metaphor floats your preverbal boat, PRIMUS is going on tour again. We were poised and ready for a massive, bent-rock extravaganza when the gremlins of covid came and yanked the rug out from under us all. I personally have been climbing the walls like a shit-house rat and, after my first season off in 30 some odd years, I’m very anxious and excited to stand in front of the microphone with my four string piece of furniture and belt out some girthy ditties to sweaty throngs of punters.”

Concert locations span the United States. Notable dates include shows at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN, ACL Live at The Moody Theater in Austin, TX, Beacon Theatre in NYC, NY, The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.
