Indie rock artist Japanese Breakfast has been keeping busy during quarantine with an upcoming album and book release scheduled for 2021. Front woman Michelle Zauner is starting her virtual book tour for her upcoming book, her new book Crying in H Mart, which will morph into a North American tour in support of their upcoming album, Julbilee. The tour will stop in Los Angeles at The Regent Theatre on October 2, and a second show has also been added for October 3.
Japanese Breakfast are known for their thoughtful, catchy songwriting and relatable, emotional lyrics. Zauner recently released a dark and dreamy self-directed music video for new single “Posing in Bondage,” which sees a zombie-like Zauner roaming a dimly-lit supermarket on a hoverboard.”‘Posing in Bondage’ is a ballad about loneliness and longing, a song about two people who want so badly to connect but are never quite able to do so,” Zauner said about the song. “No place felt lonelier than an empty grocery at 1 AM. The video is actually an epilogue to the one that will accompany our next single, here presented out of order.”
Jubilee is out on June 4 via Dead Oceans and is the third Japanese Breakfast album, following Psychopomp and Soft Sounds From Another Planet. This March, Zauner shared lead single “Be Sweet,” which was also accompanied by a self-directed music video. Zauner’s book, Crying in H Mart is now available for pre-order through Knopf. The book is about her Korean-American heritage, the loss of her mother and how she found her own identity.
