Rock legends Dinosaur Jr. are preparing to head on tour this summer, hitting the Camp Fuzz festival retreat in New York first and will stop in Los Angeles for two dates at the Fonda Theatre, February 19 and 20, 2022. The tour follows the announcement of their new record, Sweep It Into Space, which is set to be released on April 23 via Jagjaguwar. This will be their first new album since 2016’s Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. The lead single “I Ran Away” from the album has been teased along with a visualizer video of a moving painting. Tickets will be available starting this Friday, March 19.

Dinosaur Jr. was founded in 1984 in Amherst, MA by members J Mascis (guitar, vocals, primary songwriter), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals) and Murph (drums). The group disbanded in 1997, but made a comeback with the original lineup reforming in 2005 and releasing four albums thereafter. Their sound harkens to ’60s and ’70s rock with ’90s inspired distortion and feedback.

When discussing the forthcoming album, J Mascis said his writing was largely inspired by listening to classic ’80s rock group Thin Lizzy. “Kurt played little lead things, like 12 string one at the beginning of ‘I Ran Away.’ Then I ended up just mimicking a few things he’d done. I was listening to a lot of Thin Lizzy, so I was trying to get some of that dueling twin lead sound,” Mascis explains. “But the recording session was pretty well finished by the time things really hit the fan. When the lockdown happened in March, that meant I was on my own.” The album was initially set for release in 2020, but now comes in time for their tour as the world slowly begins to re-open.
