After Ohana Festival 2020 was cancelled due to Covid-19, the festival has been rescheduled to fall 2021 and will feature headliners Eddie Vedder, Kings of Leon and Pearl Jam. The stellar lineup also includes My Morning Jacket, Maggie Rogers, Mac DeMarco, Sharon Van Etten, Broken Social Scene and The Pretenders, just to name a few. The event is scheduled to take place from September 24 to 26 at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point. In 2020, the event organizers posted a message on their Facebook page indicating that the festival was postponed due to safety measures. Previous tickets purchased will be honored for the 2021 dates.
Ohana Festival was created in 2015 by multi-instrumentalist, Pearl Jam co-founder and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Eddie Vedder. He’ll be performing a solo headlining set Saturday, September 24 and with Pearl Jam during their headlining set the following night. Pearl Jam postponed their 202o tour due to Covid-19, but made a couple of live stream appearances during the shutdown. In 2020, the band featured climate change activist Greta Thunberg in their video for “Retrograde” and utilized a phone hotline to promote their 202 album, Gigaton for the chance to hear new songs “Dance of the Clairvoyants” and “Superblood Wolfmoon.”
The Pretenders released a new album Hate For Sale in 2020, with lead singles singles “The Buzz” and title track “Hate For Sale.” Vocalist Chrissi Hynde also released a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Standing In The Doorway,” which was originally featured on his 1997 studio album Time Out of Mind.
Van Etten recently teamed up with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age for a cover of “(What’s So Funny) Bout Peace Love and Understanding,” along with ballad “Staring At A Mountain” from the film Never Rarely Sometimes Always. Van Etten also teamed up with Fountains of Wayne in honor of the band’s late frontman Adam Schlesinger, who passed away from COVID-19 complications this year.
