During the hearings of Trump’s impeachment trial, Stacey Plaskett made references in her comments to hip hop artists Run the Jewels’ “Early” and GZA’s “Breaker, Breaker.” The Democratic delegate speaks on behalf of the U.S. Virgin Islands and made the comments earlier this week.
Via Twitter, Plaskett confirmed her references to the artists, tweeting, “During my presentation in the impeachment trial yesterday, I made two references from the hip hop genre: ‘The truth is usually seen and rarely heard’ from GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and ‘Truth is truth, whether denied or not,’ from Run the Jewels.”
El-P of Run the Jewels commented about his surprise in response to being quoted by the delegate on Twitter: “welp apparently i was quoted during the impeachment trial today and i can’t say i didn’t see it coming. ok i didn’t see it coming.”

Trump is facing an impeachment trial, which began in January of this year. The former president is being charged with incitement of insurrection, alleging that Trump’s comments accusing the presidential election of being affected by voter fraud led to the January 6 storming of the capitol. Many musicians commented publicly as the event was occurring, and it has been a heavy topic in the media since.
