Ice Cube, Redman & Method Man, E-40, Too $hort, Paul Wall & Slim Thug, Tha Dogg Pound, Petey Pablo, Yung Joc, Suga Free and DJ Quik will headline 93.5 KDAY’s annual Krush Groove hip-hop concert at the Staples Center on April 17, 2021. This lineup of heavy-hitting hip hop artists is pretty much the only festival that’s on the books for 2021, as times in entertainment are very much uncertain with Covid-19 still looming. This is the third time this fest has been rescheduled, with the initial date set for April 17, 2020 then September 25, 2020, so let’s hope things settle and this date sticks!
Ice Cube (aka O’Shea Jackson) is the featured headlining act and is known for contributing to to gangsta rap’s widespread popularity with his lyrics on N.W.A’s 1988 album Straight Outta Compton. In addition to his rapping, he’s also a known filmmaker and actor, portraying Doughboy in director John Singleton’s 1991 feature debut Boyz n the Hood. Since then, his acting and directing career have taken off with 1995’s Friday and sequels, Three Kings, the Barbershop series and more.
Hip hop artist E-40 has an extensive discography with twenty-eight studio albums, appearances on numerous movie soundtracks and several collaborations. Too $hort is known as a pioneer in the west coast hip-hop scene first as a major underground player then rising to prominence with his sophomore album Life Is…Too Short.
