See The Motels 40 Year Anniversary Show at the Whisky A Go Go 1/30/21

New Wave band The Motels are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their album Careful with a show at the iconic Whisky A Go Go on January 30, 2021. The Berkeley-bred band released five albums via Capitol Records between the years 1979 and 1985, took a long break and came back with a fresh lineup and three more albums since 2011. You’ve probably heard their top 10 single hits “Only the Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer,” which will transport you straight to the ’80s. Country rock duo The Swansons will open for The Motels at the Whisky.

The Motels have survived four incarnations, first forming in 1971 as The Motels withMartha Davis on vocals and guitar, Lisa Brenneis on bass, Dean Chamberlain on lead guitar and Chuck Wada on rhythm guitar. The emergence of MTV created an opportunity for The Motels to assert themselves in the music video category. Alongside Capitol records, they created music videos for both “Only the Lonely” and “Take the L” and in 1982, Davis won a Best Performance in a Music Video at the American Music Awards for her performance in the video for “Only the Lonely.”

Since their rise to fame began, The Motels have performed with ’80s greats including The Go Gos, Flock of Seagulls, Berlin, Tommy Tutone, and Wang Chung. They’ve sold out the Whisky A Go Go before and history is sure to repeat itself, so grab your tickets to secure your spot!
