Steady Holiday is the project of LA based multi-instrumentalist and singer and songwriter, Dre Babinski. Babinski started her career as a multi-instrumentalist collaborating and touring with several bands before releasing her own work as Steady Holiday. In 2016, Steady Holiday’s debut album Under The Influence was released, and was placed in the top 100 “best albums of 2016” on Bandcamp. Babinski received additional recognition as she was named “Best Solo Artist” in LA Weekly. Her second album Nobody’s Watching was released in 2018 via Barsuk Records. Her third LP Take the Corners Gently is arriving this February, 2021 and is produced by Blake Sennett.
The latest single from the forthcoming album “Tangerine” has been released with a short film and lyric video. Of the song, Babinski shares, “‘Tangerine’ is a song about mental illness — about witnessing someone’s behavior change without warning. It can be a frightening and heartbreaking thing, and I’m still learning how to understand it. Sometimes that’s easier to do with abstractions. The first single released from Nobody’s Watching, “Living Life” is both melancholic and uplifting. “‘Living Life’ might be the most straightforward and joyful song I’ve written, and it’s about living with that same intention – to be direct, and not getting in your own way,” Babinski says. “The video is meant to capture that sentiment, too. Do what comes naturally, and appreciate moments as they happen.” She sings in the chorus “This is living life / This is who I am tonight,” urging the listener to embrace who they are and not take themselves too seriously. The new songs have a completely different nature and vibe from her 2018 album Nobody’s Watching. The 2018 album explores the uglier parts of being human like deception, greed and competition. The title track is deceptively light and upbeat with a retro, nostalgic sound. But lyrics like “Now, never did I think that this could be me / But I’m stealing heavily from the powers that be / It’s not personal this time, I’m here to survive / So I smile and we shake, then I sharpen my blade” give the listener an uneasy feeling.
