Rock band Greta Van Fleet are back with a new music video for “Age Of Machine,” a track which will be included on their upcoming studio album The Battle At Garden’s Gate. This new release will be out on April 16, 2021 and the music video is co-directed by Matthew Daniel Siskin and the band’s members.
“Age of Machine” encapsulates Greta Van Fleet’s obvious inspiration from Led Zeppelin as their vocalist Josh Kiszka emulates Robert Plant’s vocal drawl and style, while his brother Jake continues to add in guitar riffs taken by Jimmy Page. The visual itself is a mix of dystopian sci fi, with Josh Kiszka undergoing a number of psychedelic experiments in an army lab, which is cut between images of a statue getting chiseled and vintage clips of psychedelic drug use. According to a press release this song attempts to discuss the relationship that modernity and technology has on the natural order.
The band’s debut album Anthem of the Peaceful Army was released in 2018 and highlighted the band’s obsession with 1970s aesthetics and nostalgia. The album had the single “When The Curtain Falls.”
“Consisting of brothers Josh, Jake and Sam Kiszka, along with friend Danny Wagner, Greta Van Fleet sounds like a combination of Led Zeppelin and Rush, but they retain some modernity throughout,” mxdwn reviewer Caitlin Willis explained. “Though some may take pause to their heavily ’70s-influenced sound, for anyone who is a fan of classic rock, Greta Van Fleet is the perfect modern band, and Anthem of the Peaceful Army is a great example of that fact.”
