Garage rock duo The Detroit Cobras are coming to Los Angeles’ Zebulon on September 16, 2021. The female duo emerged from the Detroit rock scene in ’94. They’re most known for their retro cover songs like “Cha-Cha Twist” and “Midnite Blues.” Soon enough, their reputation grew them to be one of the Midwest’s finest cover bands. The band was scheduled to head on a west coast tour before Covid-19 hit, and were forced to push back all tour dates.
The Detroit Cobras are known to shift their band lineup quite a bit, but front women Rachel Nagy (vocals, piano) and Mary Ramirez (guitar) are the current main lineup. Additionally, Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound (aka Greg Oblivian of The Oblivians) has also been a continuous creative force for the band. All in all, they have four full-length albums, and EP and two compilations. They have toured for punk legends X in 2008 and headlined a tour in 2009 with the Dex Romweber Duo in support. The Detroit Cobras also appeared on the Jack White compilation, Sympathetic Sounds of Detroit. Earlier this year, the band released a 7″ split with their single “Stay Down” and “Lightning Byrd” by Kenny Tudrick, the first release from the Cobras’ drummer Kenny’s new label, Black River House Records.
