Tash Sultana Announces New Album Terra Firma for February 2021 Release and Shares New Song “Willow Tree” Featuring Jerome Farah

Indie/soul singer Tash Sultana announced their second album, Terra Firma, will be released February 19, 2021. They also released a new single, “Willow Tree,” featuring Jerome Farah.

The album will be self-released and is available for pre-order on their website with digital, CD and vinyl options. There’s also a lot of new merch, including shirts, tote bags and patches. According to the press release, Terra Firma is about finding a healthy balance between family, life and touring.

Tash Sultana explained, “I didn’t realize that I needed to create a space and home for myself to feel like a person again. I just went inward and found a really peaceful place and wrote an album, and I feel really happy with it.”

The singles released so far have definitely been peaceful, slower tracks. There’s been no tracklist announced yet, but stripped back guitar and vocal track “Pretty Lady,” hip hop influenced “Greed” and psychedelic soul song “Beyond the Pine” were confirmed to be on the record. They also mention an unreleased song called “Crop Circles,” describing it as “full jazz.” Tash Sultana described their sound as “Aretha Franklin meets Bon Iver meets John Mayer meets whatever. It’s recognizably Tash Sultana, but deeper and more nuanced.”

Other listening options are available here.

“Willow Tree” is a little more upbeat, but still relaxed. Reggae-influenced bass and drums set the rhythm, but the track is still distinctly a neo-soul song. The hip hop influence kicks up once fellow Australian singer Jerome Farah comes in. “Where there’s smoke there’s fire/Take me up just a little bit higher/Hot damn, try to rip off your plans/Win a free ride back to Neverland,” they sing.

Like their debut album, Flow State, Tash Sultana wrote, performed, produced and engineered every track. However, this time they got a little help from songwriter Matt Corby and producer Dann Hume, and featured artists such as Corby and Farah.
