Daniel Lanois Announces New Album Heavy Sun For April 2021 Release, Shares First Single “(Under The) Heavy Sun”

Signer-songwriter Daniel Lanois has announced that his new album Heavy Sun is set to be released in April 2021. He has also shared its lead single from the album, “(Under The) Heavy Sun”  The atmospheric yet groovy track comes with its accompanying video, showing a woman dancing with multiple filters. Check it out below.

Heavy Sun will be the first release under Daniel’s new “Maker Series” brand. In a press release, the new record is described as it fuses classic gospel and modern electronics, mixing gritty, human textures with crisp, digital accents and lush, swirling atmospherics to create a sound that’s at once warmly familiar and boldly unexpected. “We want to lift people’s spirits with this music,” says Lanois. “It’s so easy to feel isolated right now, but we want everyone to feel included in what we’re doing.”

He continues to say “Our goal was to be a force for good with these songs. We wanted to remind people not to let the world steal their joy, to remind them that even during a global pandemic, it’s our responsibility to protect our spirits and find ways to keep on dancing, keep on singing, keep on teaching, keep on loving.”

Lanois last contributed to the Red Dead Redemption 2 soundtrack with his song  “That’s The Way It Is,” a slow and moody track apart of a soundtrack that also featured D’Angelo, Willie Nelson, Rhiannon Giddons and Josh Homme.
