Gerard Way used My Chemical Romance’s Devil’s Night show at the Hollywood Bowl to tell fans what’s next: a new album in 2027 and a return to touring in 2028.
“So yeah, next year, we wanna go make a record,” Way told the crowd during the Oct. 30 performance, the first of two Halloween weekend shows at the Los Angeles venue. He later added, “Hopefully we’ll see you guys in 2028.”
According to Stereogum, it was explained the band had been eager to keep writing after releasing “The Foundations of Decay,” but that other circumstances had disrupted those plans. The night doubled as a reunion. The Used’s Bert McCracken joined MCR onstage for the first time since 2005, when the two bands toured together. My Chemical Romance also dusted off a rare track from 2010’s “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.”
Now, with a potential new record on the horizon, it appears the group is ready to revisit the creative process and begin working toward its next release. While details surrounding the album remain limited, the 2027 timeline gives fans something new to look forward to after years of anticipation. The Hollywood Bowl performance also carried a special moment for longtime fans. The Used frontman Bert McCracken joined My Chemical Romance onstage for the first time since 2005, when the two bands previously toured together. The reunion added another nostalgic highlight to the Halloween weekend show.
My Chemical Romance also reached into its back catalog, bringing out a rarely performed track from its 2010 album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Between the unexpected reunion, deep-cut performance, and news of plans, the Hollywood Bowl show became more than just another night on the band’s current run. Although no official album title, release date, or touring details have been announced, Gerard Way’s comments have given fans a clearer idea of what could be ahead: new My Chemical Romance music in 2027, with the possibility of seeing the band back onstage in 2028.
