Lana Del Rey has released what is purportedly the lead single to her upcoming album, Chemtrails Over The Country Club. The single, titled “Let Me Love You Like a Woman,” came alongside a hand-made music video shot by Del Rey herself.
The upcoming album’s release date is still unknown, but the album was produced by Jack Antonoff, who also produced Del Rey’s latest album, 2019’s Normal Fucking Rockwell!. In May, Del Rey said the new album was to be released in September.
“Let Me Love You Like a Woman” is a simple, minimalistic piano ballad that features Del Rey’s layered vocals over a heartbeat sound. The song is about leaving Los Angeles to start over and inviting a lover to come along with her.
The video features Del Rey on an apparent road trip through the midwest. Del Rey sits behind the wheel of a car and sings along to the song, which features the lyrics “I come from a small town, how ’bout you? / I only mention it ’cause I’m ready to leave LA.”
In other scenes, she’s in the passenger seat of a convertible being filmed singing along to the radio, and in some scenes she’s performing onstage or hanging out with friends on the beach. It ends with a video of Del Rey and her friends riding a golf cart chatting and laughing as a clip of the Hollywood sign fades in the background.
Del Rey released spoken word album in July called Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass, an audiobook version of her poetry collection of the same name set to music by Jack Antonoff. In August, she teased new song on her Instagram with a short clip captioned “Tulsa Jesus Freak,” which is the anticipated title of the song.
Del Rey has also come under scrutiny for wearing fishnet mask to a poetry reading in Los Angeles earlier this month. She was signing books and taking photos with fans during the event.
