Jam Out to Umphrey’s McGee Live at The Wiltern 9/4/21

Umphrey’s McGee were originally scheduled to go on tour this year, but postponed their tour to 2021 due to Covid-19. They’ll make a stop in Los Angeles at The Wiltern on September 4, 2021. Umphrey’s McGee are known for their genre-bending jams and have been compared to iconic jam bands such as Phish and Grateful Dead.

The group formed in 1997 in South Bend, Indiana. The band members met at Notre Dame and ended up combining their two college bands Tashi Station and Stomper Bob to form Umphrey’s McGee. They went from playing covers of Guns N’ Roses, Phish and Grateful Dead songs to incorporating improvisational techniques to their sound in the early ’00s. Today, they’re known for their extensive live performances, often jamming for hours on end. They have more live albums and DVD’s than full-length releases, which attests to the power of their live performance. They’ve been known to experiment with various genres including rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues, reggae, electronic, bluegrass, and folk.

If you’re a fan of simple, straightforward rock, this might not be the show for you. But, if you’re ready to let Umphrey’s McGee take you on a jammy adventure, grab your tickets and get ready to be blown away.
