The legendary Stephen Malkmus will be performing four US concerts in 2021, one of which will be at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on April 19, 2021. These new dates follow the cancellation of his initial 2020 tour due to Covid-19.
Malkmus is most known as one of the founding members of Pavement, one of the most influential indie bands of the early ’90s. After the band disbanded in 1999, Malkmus went on to perform and release albums as Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. Together, the band released seven studio albums with Sparkle Hard being their latest in 2018. Currently, Malkmus performs with both The Jicks and solo.
After his latest release with the Jicks, Malkmus focused on his solo work and produced two albums including Groove Denied in 2019 and Traditional Techniques, which was released in March 2020 via Matador Records. His celebrity influence is evident in his music video for the single “Shadowbanned,” featuring guest stars Kim Gordon, Mac DeMarco, Sharon Van Etten and Jason Schwartzman. Traditional Techniques is contemporary folk music at its finest, with “occasional bursts of flute-laced swagger, straight-up commune rock (“Xian Man”), and mind-bending fuzz.”
