In this post-Covid world, the future of shows is finally here! The City National Grove of Anaheim began hosting drive-in concerts this summer, with two dates scheduled for Los Angeles indie-pop sensations Fitz and the Tantrums. They’ll perform on September 5 and 6, 2020 in support of their fourth album All the Feels and the 10th anniversary of their debut album Pickin’ Up the Pieces.
As we accept the new trend of artists postponing shows until next year, the rest of 2020 seemed pretty bleak for live performances. This drive-in adaption is an exciting and nostalgic form of taking in live shows that will hopefully tide us show enthusiasts over until large gatherings are deemed safe again. Sure, artists have taken to live streams, but it hasn’t been the same.
Fitz and the Tantrums formed in 2008 with band members Michael Fitzpatrick, Noelle Scaggs, James King, Joseph Karnes, Jeremy Ruzumna and John Wicks. The group mix elements of neo-soul, indie and pop music and are known for churning out danceable hits like “HandClap” and “Out of My League.” The multi-platinum outfit have expressed their excitement for this live performance, with frontman Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick sharing the following statement: “We couldn’t be more excited to play a show again! We all need live music in our lives. This is gonna feel really special to bring some joy to people in these challenging times and get to do it in a safe and responsible way.”
