Metal Band Destruction Played Two Actually Live Shows in Switzerland

While the COVID-19 pandemic has shut down many shows across the globe, German heavy metal outfit Destruction played live show at Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland, this past weekend. Destruction played to a socially-distanced crowd limited to 300 out of a 1,600 cap venue. While further details regarding the social-distance measures taken place are sparse, footage from the event does show the crowd standing far apart, although it is unclear if mask use is required.

“It feels a little bit surreal,” the band’s frontman Schmier said during an interview. “Nobody expected this to come back so quick, but we’re in the lucky position to live on the Swiss border, and Switzerland is far ahead of all the other countries and are doing concerts in two weeks.”

The band shared footage from the event on their Facebook page, some of which was broadcast during a brief live stream. While COVID-19 rates did see a slight fall in COVID-19 infection rates, the past couple of days have seen a recent spike in cases.

While the concert in Switzerland appeared to be complying with some social-distancing measures, recent concerts in the US have attracted a lot of controversy due to their lack of responsible social distancing measures.

Country musician Chase Rice recently held show in Tennessee, where he performed to a crowd of 800 largely unmasked fans, who were all congregating close together. The Highway 30 Festival organizers in Filer, Idaho, caught controversy after video was taken during a performance by Chris Janson, where a large crowd was shown standing close together and not wearing masks. Rapper Vanilla Ice has also announced that he may be playing to a crowd of thousands due to a shutdown loophole, although social distancing measures will reportedly be put in place.
