Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy recently held a live stream with his wife and sons, Susie, Spencer and Sammy, for an Instagram Live event called “The Tweedy Show.” This family segment featured a number of covers, as the family tackled songs by Link Wray, Neil Young, My Bloody Valentine, and Arthur Russell.
The first cover was of Young’s “Try,” which was originally featured on Young’s latest studio album release Homegrown, which compiled various recordings made between June 1974 and January 1975, although it came out this year. This performance saw Jeff Tweedy lead on vocals and guitar, while his son Spencer joins in on the drums for this cover.
Tweedy’s other son Sammy would later go on to perform a cover of Russell’s “Close My Eyes,” which was posthumously released on the performer’s 2008 compilation record Love Is Overtaking Me. His father joined in on this performance by playing the acoustic guitar.
Sammy would go on to give yet another vocal performance of Wray’s “La De Da,” which was originally featured on the artist’s 1971 self-titled debut album. Spencer joins once again on the drums, while their father joins in on the guitar.
Their final cover of My Bloody Valentine’s “When You Sleep” was another outing involving each of the family members. This track originally appeared on the band’s seminal 1991 studio album Loveless.
Tweedy recently teamed up with soul legend Mavis Staples for the song “All In It Together,” with the proceeds benefiting Chicago’s My Block My Hood My City. Wilco teamed up with Sharon Van Etten to perform pair of Christmas covers in the city last December.
