London-via-Melbourne duo Dead Can Dance are heading out on tour next April and will make a stop at the stunning tree-lined outdoor Greek Theatre on May 8, 2021. The tour, entitled “A Celebration – Life and Works 1980-2021” initially began after their 2018 release Dionysus, with dates scheduled into 2020, but has been pushed back one year due to Covid-19. As the title suggests, the tour will highlight the duo’s most beloved songs throughout their 30-year career.
Tho duo consisting of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard formed in Melbourne in 1981. Their style is informed by European folk music, particularly from the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and brought into this century with worldbeat and ambient pop flourishes. They relocated to London shortly after forming, signed with label 4AD and released their first of a string of successful avant-pop albums. Their live performance should be a worldly feast for the ears, as each song delves into their various appreciations of music from Africa to the Middle East and more.
Danish singer-songwriter Agnes Obel will join Dead Can Dance on tour. Since the arrival of her first album in 2011, Obel has received several awards and acclaims including Best Album and Best Debut Artist at the Danish Music Awards and more.
