Secret’s Out! The Secret Sisters Play the Lodge Room 3/11/21

THE SECRET SISTERS

The Secret Sisters will head on tour this August and are making a stop the The Lodge Room in Highland Park March 11, 20201. The tour will support their latest release, Saturn Return. The Americana singer-songwriter duo consist of vocalists and sisters Laura Rogers and Lydia Slagle. The sisters hail from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and grew up heavily influenced by country music to the likes of Don Williams.

Their self-titled debut album consisted of cover songs such as “Why Don’t Ya Love Me?” “Why Baby Why,” Frank Sinatra’s “Somethin’ Stupid,” and Nancy Baron’s, “I’ve Got a Feeling”. The album also included two original songs written by Laura Rogers, “Tennessee Me” and “Waste the Day.” The album was recorded within two weeks at Blackbird Studios and was produced by Dave Cobb  (Waylon Jennings, Jamey Johnson). Around the same time, they also recorded covers of Johnny Cash’s “Big River” and the traditional folk song “Wabash Cannonball” at Jack White’s studio, with White accompanying them on guitar. The songs were released as a 7-inch single via Third Man Records.

After they were dropped from Republic Universal Records in 2015, singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile invited them to open for her in her Seattle shows, and liked them so much she ended up producing their next album You Don’t Own Me Anymore. Their latest album Saturn Return was released in March 2020, and was praised by Rolling Stone as a “stunning country-soul opus.”
