LA punk legends The Dickies are coming to the Whisky A Go Go on September 4. The LA scene veterans are one of the few surviving punk bands still recording new music. They’re best known for their zany live shows and light-hearted covers. They’ve influenced a new wave of punk music with bands like Green Day and The Offspring noting The Dickies as one of their prominent influences.
The Dickies formed in 1977 in the San Fernando Valley. They’ve been making music for the past 40 years, and their style is light-hearted and fast with lots of humor. Their musical style has been described as pop-punk, bubblegum punk, and they’ve been referred to as the “clown princes of punk.” Their live performances have not been known for political correct-ness, so be sure to enter the Whisky with a thick skin and prepare for singer Leonard Graves Phillips to include anything from questionable rants to urinating as his way of interacting with the audience. But as their website boasts, you’ll be in for a hilarious “international cabaret” experience.
East coast punk band The Queers will open for The Dickies. Their style is similar to the Ramones’ brand of punk – fast and lighthearted.
