A blissful comedown
With his new album freshly released, Sondre Lerche returns to the scene once more with a softer surreal experience with Patience bringing lighthearted melodies that junction with soft rock tunes.
Since his debut in early 2001, the Norwegian vocalist and multi-instrumental talent producer, now based in LA, has racked his score of positive reviews and a fair share of fame in multiple areas of media for his works incorporating different genres of music. Following up from the ’80s synth sounding Pleasure, Patience incorporates modern R&B melodies mixed with Lerche’s soft and lax vocals to lower the mood “that moves like a glacier.”
Highlight track and first up, “Patience” sets the tone of the album with faded harmonic vocals and a poetic breakdown for a grand entrance into this 12-track set. Acoustically rhythmic, “I Love You Because It’s True” is a light love song with angelic harmonies in the background to trance all who hear its melody to embrace love in under three minutes. “You Are Not Who I Thought I Was” is set with a faster beat to a high swing and folky tune that alludes to the sounds of Vance Joy for a prancing jiving experience.
Grooving into the scene with smooth jazzy saxes and magical strums, “Are We Alone Now” is slow with repetitive percussions that are perfect for lying under the shade in the summertime as the day drifts by. With a quick acoustic and vocal intro, “That’s All There Is” transitions into a catchy repetitive synth beat that coincides with Lerche’s vocals for a headbanging tune that transitions into “Put The Camera Down” that swings with the rhythm and allusion of ’50s classical music with dreamy violins stringing together.
“Why Would I Let You Go” orchestrates together a love song with soft plucks of the guitar and wavy synths for a scene of love just before the combination of pianos and guitar strums of “I Can’t See Myself Without You” that is sensationally uplifting in these times of violence and self-quarantines. “Don’t Waste Your Time” is much the same as the album presents: slow, dreamy and chill. Amusing to say the least, it’s the track best suited for lifting the mood in a long dreary car ride that just never seems to end.
With a combination of different tunes of genres and instruments, “Why Did I Write The Book Of Love” is moderately musically experimental and expresses a unique sound as opposed to the rest of the album, but remains uplifting to its core sound. Fitting the overall mood and tune of Patience, “My Love Is Hard To Explain” remains loyal to this as the album comes to an end with a blissful and serene melody of synths, pianos, light guitars and relaxed vocals.
Patience is a generally softer toned, surreal album as compared to Lerche’s other works and is a hard switch from his 2017 Pleasure, but offers a relaxing experience just in time for summer. For fans of Lerche, Patience is but yet another hit album that is sure to give fans the good time they need.
