One of my absolute favorite small-concert venues in the city, Theatre of Living Arts will be hosting the Brooklyn-based Afrobeat band on August 20. They will be vibing for the 1,000 lucky enough to attend this intimate show. Antibalas was founded by Martín Perna under the original name ‘Conjunto Antibalas’, with their first ever performance during poetry night at a pub in Harlem. Since then, they have amassed a large discography with 7 full studio albums, 7 featured albums, and over 10 EPs and singles.
This is a huge collective, which makes for an incredible stage presence and live show. Antibalas is composed of 15 members, with far more past members. They truly are a group of afrobeat musicians who stick very closely to the genre, incorporating aspects of jazz, funk, and drumming from West Africa and Cuba. Come check this amazing group out on August 20 and get back into the live music scene. Please check the link below as the status of the concert may change depending on the circumstances surrounding the pandemic.
