Southern California Psych Rock blends surf and folk rock with psychedelia for a laid-back, beach-to-the-desert feel. Mystic Braves are ’70s psych encapsulated, from their look to their sound. LA-based country psych rock outfit Windows, featuring Mystic Braves’ Mateo Arias, will open the show along with local band The Pesos.
Mystic Braves have been playing smaller LA venues since I can remember, arriving hard on the scene with their self-titled album. Their latest album The Great Unknown, lost the fuzzier aspects of their previous albums, but filled in their sound with added vocals and expansive guitars. Mystic Braves members started their founding days living and playing together at the local psych label Lolipop Records headquarters, which at the time was a two-bedroom house in Echo Park. They’ve also broken into the international fashion scene, providing a soundtrack to Yves Saint Laurent’s spring 2015 Paris show.
While it’s possible that Mystic Braves is below the radar of many rock ‘n’ roll fans, to paint a picture of their resume, they have played at prestigious festivals including Austin Psych Fest, Burgerama and Desert Daze. They’ve also played alongside psych greats like Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Zombies, taking their place in the psych rock scene.
Let their dreamy, carefree psych sounds wash over you with their live performance at The Troubador on August 15!
