Some bands just feel like they won’t translate to a live setting. Stuff that tends towards the ambient and the incredibly relaxed can often lose itself in the din that is a general audience live show. If there were any band outside the realm of ambient that is in danger of getting lost in a live setting, Real Estate is certainly near the top of that list.
Luckily, reports from live Real Estate shows tell a different story. Fans rave about their tight guitar chops that lead to perfect renditions of their biggest hits. At the same time, Real Estate isn’t afraid to play around a little bit, leading to exciting moments of improv that keep shows from becoming too predictable for longtime fans.
This show will be particularly exciting, not only because we’ll finally be outside of our houses, but because it follows the release of Real Estate’s latest record, The Main Thing. This stunning record is their first release since 2017’s In Mind, and features a return to form for the band in the form of tighter guitar melodies and more enthralling vocals. At the same time, it expands on their earlier sounds with a feature from Sylvan Esso, which helps to propel the lead single “Paper Cup” into the stratosphere. Making this one of their most exciting records to date.
Don’t miss out on your chance to catch Real Estate and Meg Baird when they come through Los Angeles at the Fonda, and follow Mxdwn for updates on all your favorite artists!
