Primus Pays Tribute to Rush at the Greek Theatre with the Tribute to Kings Tour

If you’re a fan of prog rock you’re a fan of Rush, there isn’t a single band that is more influential and important to the entire scene. While bands like Yes and King Crimson were some of the most important, none ever really managed to capture the noodly spirit of prog rock and blend it with accessible sounds without losing teeth in the way that Rush has.

Of course, as a prog group, Primus was incredibly influenced by Rush. Though Claypool is a singular bass player in many respects, you can draw a straight line from Geddy Lee to Claypool without far too much difficulty. Plus, the strange arrangements of Primus songs are clearly owed to Rush in many respects. So it only makes sense that Primus would find a way to pay tribute to their beloved idols.

Beginning this summer, Primus is embarking across the US for their “A Tribute to Kings” tour. This tour is a play on the Rush album A Farewell to Kings and will feature Primus playing some of their own original material and covers of Rush songs.

If you’re a fan of prog, there really isn’t a show that’s more important than this one. Primus is arguably the most talented prog band this side of Tool, and they might even be on the same level. So don’t miss out on this great tour when they come to LA in July.
