Rock band the Pretenders have delayed the release of their upcoming album Hate For Sale until July 17th this year, a couple of months after their anticipated release date of May. The band have debuted the title-track from this latest project, which also premiered today via Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music program.
“Hate For Sale” takes influence from punk, and some elements of heavy blues, with catchy electric guitar chords driving the main instrumental, which are complemented by harmonicas, and blues-inspired guitar chords during some moments. The band’s lead vocalist Chrissie Hynde gives a confident vocal delivery, atop of the energetic rock track.
Hynde co-wrote this latest project alongside James Walbourne, who has been the lead guitarist for The Pretenders since 2008. The album was also produced by Stephen Street, who has worked with the likes of alternative rock acts such as Blur.
“I wanted to write with him since day one. James is especially sought after and has recorded with Jerry Lee Lewis, Dave Gahan, and The Rails, to name but a few,” Hynde explained in a press release. “We always planned on writing while on the road, but as anyone in a band will tell you, being on tour is a procrastinator’s dream come true.”
The group released “The Buzz” upon the announcement of Hate For Sale’s original release last week, which also channeled some of the nostalgia from rock’s past. The band’s most recent studio album release Alone came out in 2016, and was recorded at the Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville, Tennessee.
