Nicole Atkins released a new track, “Domino” from her new album, Italian Ice out on April 17. You can pre-order here. Atkins just announced her spring 2020 “Italian Ice tour” which includes stops in the United States and Europe. The new track is soulful and sweet with Atkins vocals guiding you along in a gentle yet purposeful fashion, much like her other tracks that pervade your senses. Atkins talent comes through effortlessly and this new track is no exception.
On April 17, she will be performing with Vera Sola at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco and is also slated to play the Bellwether Festival in Waynesville, Ohio at the Renaissance Park on August 6-8, 2020. She will also play at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles on April 13, 2020.
Atkins live music is described as doing a beautiful job keeping her concert-goers on their toes. Whether it’s her swooning voice that is beautifully complimented by the band that plays behind her or her apparent talent with a guitar, her presences on stage is immediately felt. The beauty of her live sets is that she creates unique experiences every time.
Atkins is described in an mxdwn.com article as a rare songwriter who has been compared to some of the most important musicians of all time, including a glowing review that equated her to the legendary Roy Orbison. She is one of the few songwriters left who remains influenced by a crooning style of songwriting, and that beautiful style comes through in each and every one of her songs.
Italian Ice was created with producer Ben Tanner at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Her backing band included two Muscle Shoals veterans, David Hood and Spooner Oldham, who perform as the sessions group the Swampers, along with the Dap-Kings’ Binky Griptite and Jim Sclavunos and Dave Sherman of Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds. The album also features Seth Avett, John Paul White and Erin Rae, and features songwriting credits from Daniel, Hamilton Leithauser and Carl Broemel. “Musically, it doesn’t make any sense,” Atkins said in a statement regarding the features on Italian Ice. “But I’m a superfan of all of them, and we ended up with the weirdest, craziest band ever. It just became this awesome misfit party.”
In November 2019, Atkins and Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees released a cover of Guns N’ Roses, “November Rain” which is a stripped-down, soulful version of the heavy metal ballad. Atkins’ sweet interpretation of the song is complemented by Lanegan’s rough, but tender, singing. Atkins said, “The best thing with this cover is that I’ll play it and people don’t realize what they’re listening to until 30 seconds in. My dad thought it was a Conway Twitter cover. Then they all go, “Wait, is this November Rain?! I love that song!!!!”
