It’s always exciting to find a band who makes excellent music while being artistically talented. So many artists who are good at one have difficulty with the other, which can lead to artistically exciting mediocre music, or excellent music with no soul. Wye Oak has always been a band that perfectly splits this balance right down the middle.
The band itself started as Monarch before changing their name to Wye Oak. Their first record was essentially a school project, but it was skillful enough to earn the eventual attention of labels and distributors who quickly picked up the band for radio play and distribution.
Later this month, Wye Oak will be playing an intimate show at the Hollywood Forever Masonic Lodge. Those who have not been to a show at the Hollywood Forever Masonic Lodge should know that it’s in the middle of a graveyard, so if you have a fear of ghosts this may not be the show for you. Even still, I’d suggest you consider attending as this venue is one of the best places to see in Los Angeles. There is not a doubt in my mind that Wye Oak will be right at home as they bring their folk inspired jams to the cemetery.
