Being the multicultural city that it is, it’s no surprise that Los Angeles plays host to musicians from around the world. So it’s exciting when a band comes through and exposes us to the music of another culture that we rarely hear.
This year, as part of the Coachella sideshows Altin Gun is coming to the El Rey. The best venue on Wilshire, which has played hosts to artists of all different stripes, is now going to host an Anatolian Psych Folk group. Altin Gun was discovered by ATO Records when they saw them play at King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Gizzfest 2018 in Australia. The band has since been signed to ATO and has brought their diverse musical stylings to audiences around the globe.
Despite the esoteric nature of their musical style they were nominated for a Grammy award in 2019. While they didn’t win, the recognition was enough to net them a US tour. Clearly things went well enough in the states that they’ve decided to attend Coachella and perform a sideshow.
This may not be the most popular band playing Coachella or a sideshow but bands like Altin Gun don’t get a chance to perform Coachella or the El Rey unless they’re huge or incredibly talented. Given the size of their fan base that leaves one option. I’d suggest you check this one out.
