Primus, the funk metal bend hailing from California, has been an incredible influence and presence in the metal scene for decades. The group was formed back in 1984 by the original members of Les Claypool (vocals, bass), Todd Huth (guitar) and Tim Alexander (drums), with Huth and Alexander departing from the band in 1988. The current lineup consists of Claypool, Larry “Ler” LaLonde (guitar) and Tim “Herb” Alexander (drums). Featuring the current lineup, Primus released the live album Suck on This (1989) and then four incredible studio albums: Frizzle Fry, Sailing the Seas of Cheese, Pork Soda, and Tales from the Punchbowl. The band declared a hiatus in 2003, and returned in 2003 and released the studio album Green Naugahyde (2009). Alexander had left and rejoined the band twice at this point, rejoining again in 2013.

Claypool is much more than an artist and founding member — in fact, they have released many of their records on Claypool’s own label, Prawn Song Records. Primus is a quirky band that is in a league of its own, defying any genres or lables. In 1993, Robert Christgau, a well-respected rock critic, said that Primus is “quite possibly the strangest top-10 band ever, and good for them.” Their uniqueness is clearly working well for them, with a large and dedicated fan base as well as dedication in terms of live shows and extensive touring for years. They have released a total of 6 studio albums and their most recent release, The Desaturating Seven (2017), peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200. Don’t miss out on this chance to see Primus live at the Met. This show and tour is called A Tribute To The Kings and the trio will be paying homage to the legendary Rush by playing their 1977 album, A Farewell to Kings, in its entirety along with their own songs. This is sure to be an incredible show and something that will be impossible to forget.
