Heavy Psych Sounds Fest Melts Faces at the Moroccan Lounge

Drugs, that’s what most people think when psychedelic rock is mentioned. To a large degree, you wouldn’t be wrong if that was you initial perception, the very name of the genre comes from the ‘60s idea of psychedelica which are hallucinations and “otherworldly” thoughts brought on by psychoactive drugs, particularly weed, LSD and magic mushrooms. But if you think that’s all there is to Psych Rock you’re missing out on one of the most exciting realms of music.

While the heyday of Psychedelic rock has certainly passed at least in terms of public consciousness, it remains stalwart in the underground community, where it has blended with genres like Desert Rock, Doom Metal, Stoner Metal and Middle Eastern traditions to turn into something entirely unlike what any other genre can offer. Their songs truly encapsulate the mind altering effects of the substances that inspired them, and offer an exciting use of textures that have yet to be explored in most popular music.

This latest iteration of the festival will feature sets from well respected psych rock artists Earthless and Davana, both of whom are sure to provide face shredding solos and unbelievable textures as they run through this evening at the fitting venue of the Moroccan Lounge. If you’ve been looking for something to shake up your day to day musical experience then you can’t do any better than this show.
