Between The Buried And Me Will Be Taking Over The Theatre of Living Arts on May 12

Coming out of Raleigh, North Carolina, Between the Buried and Me is a progressive metal band that is pushing the boundaries and limits of the genre. During their sets and songs, they will go from playing what would be considered thrash metal to hardcore, death metal-esque growls and long riffs. The band consists of 5 members as follows: Tommy Giles Rogers Jr. (lead vocals/keyboard), Paul Waggoner (lead guitar/vocals), Dustie Waring (rhythm guitar), Dan Briggs (bass/keyboards), and Blake Richardson (drums). The group was formed in 2002 due to the collapse of the metalcore band Prayer for Cleansing where Rogers and Waggoner were members before its demise. The group has had various members step in and out of roles, with many of the original musicians no longer with the band — Rogers and Waggoner are the only originals still left.

Between the Buried and Me have a lengthy discography consisting of 10 studio albums. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2002, and it was not initially a success. However, it did catch the attention of Victory Records, where they would later sign. At this point, they ran through many members, but the current lineup was formed before they released their third album, Alaska (2005). Since this, they have garnered major attention and critical acclaim. Most recently they have released Automata I (2018) and Automata II (2018) which stay true to their progressive style and hardcore attitutde. I highly recommend you give Automata II a listen — it is an incredible showing of musical ability and imagination, with Bassist Dan Briggs stating that “Automata II sees us at our most dynamic and most creative”. The album received a score of 81/100 from review aggregator Metacritic based on four music critics. This will surely be an unforgettable night, especially at the small and intimate venue in the Theatre of Living Arts, where you can get an up close and personal experience with this amazing group.
