Listen: Kanye West still has many fans. Among those fans, one can count Australian goth-rock icon Nick Cave who recently called Kanye “our greatest artist.” Consequence of Sound reports that the comments were made by Cave on his Red Hand Files blog and that he elaborated by saying “There is no musician on Earth that is as committed to their own derangement as Kanye, and in this respect, at this point in time, he is our greatest artist.” Cave is not completely wrong here, at least in terms of Kanye being committed to his art form and persona, the latter part is up for debate. Cave has been critic of “woke culture,” which he believes “doesn’t allow for other ways of thinking.” Kanye West for his part is embracing a more conservative approach, denouncing in some aspects his past beliefs.

Speaking of the group, they do have a recently released record titled Ghosteen, which sees Cave embrace a more orchestral theme. Still, Nick Cave insists that he wishes to remain in a perpetual state of “neutrality” as he does not wish to get involved with ideologies as he explains “This is the reason I tend to become uncomfortable around all ideologies that brand themselves as ‘the truth’ or ‘the way.’” No matter his reasons, his statements are not so out of character and right in line with his rebellious nature.
