Pinegrove Brings their Calm Sounds to a Rowdy Roxy Theater on 2/5

Pinegrove

How many times did you throw around the idea of starting a band while in college? I’m sure most of us did. A few of us may have even started the band, but more than likely dropped it after life and school and partying (especially partying) got in the way. Some folks, it turns out, are more resilient than others, and actually give these bands more than a college try. The most famous example in the current age is Vampire Weekend, but they aren’t the only people to let a stoned idea become a reality.

Pinegrove didn’t just form because of a college connection, they actually took their name from it, referencing the Brown Family Environmental Center at Kenyon College where two of the band members attended.

They didn’t stay local for long, their masterful combination of indie folk, emo, and americana found them filling a niche that was once reserved for names like Bon Iver and Wilco, but on a much more down to earth scale. Their key breakthrough took place in 2015 with Everything So Far but they reached true acclaim when they released Cardinal in 2016.

Shortly after Cardinal released the band took a Hiatus in 2017 following the departure of member Nandi Plunkett who left to form the group Half Waif. Their short hiatus ended 2018 when they released Skylight and are now working towards the release of Marigold which is due out in 2020.

Pinegrove will be playing on February 5th at the Roxy, where they are sure to bring an unusual calm to a space that is so often reserved for rock and general insanity.
