David Lee Roth, the solo performer and lead vocalist for the classic rock band Van Halen stated that his bandmate, Eddie Van Halen is “not doing well,” during recent interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Van Halen has been undergoing cancer treatments in recent months, and recently suffered from a severe reaction from some of the cancer drugs he received.
“Ed’s not doing well, and singing and dancing is a perishable skill,” Roth explained during the interviw. “If you have the capacity, it’s something that has to be used routinely, if not for the thrill of it and the magic of creating with other incandescent spirits.”
Last September Roth stated “I think Van Halen is finished,” according to Consequence of Sound. The band’s former bassist Michael Anthony stated that he was approached with an opportunity to reunite with his old band, however he later stated that this development fell through.
“They never got in touch with us about any kind of a contract or any kind of a meeting to discuss or whatever. And the next thing I knew, the plug got pulled on it…If things would have worked out as they were starting to go and it was planned, we probably would have been in pre-production rehearsals with Van Halen right now,” Anthony explained.
Roth is currently hosting a residency in Las Vegas. His kickoff show took place last night on January 8th, at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. The performer reportedly played through hits such as “Dance the Night Away”, “Panama”, “Jump”, “Just a Gigolo”, and “California Girls.”
