Lawrence Rothman and Pale Waves Team Up for New Song “SkinDeepSkyHighHeartWide” from The Turning Motion Picture Soundtrack

Lawrence Rothman has joined forces with Pale Waves for the new track “SkinDeepSkyHighHeartWide,” which is the latest track from the upcoming soundtrack for the film The Turning. This soundtrack will be released on January 24th via KRO Records / Sony Music Masterworks, on the same day as the Floria Sigismondi directed film.

“SkinDeepSkyHighHeartWide” takes a vintage 1990s pop style sound, with melodic guitars and vocals, and a simple pop rhythm serving as the tracks main beat. This song follows a similar style to many other tracks released for this soundtrack, which seeks to emulate the feel of classic 1990s era film soundtracks.

“‘SkinDeepSkyHighHeartWide’ was written from the perspective of Kate, played by Mackenzie Davis,” Rothman explained in a press release. “Her character is driven to madness from harboring a truth that know one wants to believe. The people she confides in abandon her which drives her to delusion and into a mental abyss. Heather from Pale Waves vocal was tracked in two takes, her voice added a beautiful rawness and urgency to the lyrics that bound together with the fractured Kate”

The Turning is inspired by the classic novella The Turn of the Screw, a late 19th century horror tale originally written by Henry James. The novel is being reinterpreted as a haunted house thriller for the upcoming film.

Courtney Love’s song “Mother,” which was her first piece of solo work in over four years was released in support of this soundtrack back in 2019. Soccer Mommy also released song for the sountrack last year titled “Feed.”
