Swans Bring Their Blistering Sound to Los Angeles on 6/9

Yesterday we discussed Wilco, particularly under the pretense of them being a long tenured highly influential band in a particular scene that is beginning to drift into an underappreciated territory. Today we turn our attention to a band that has found themselves on the opposite path. Working themselves from relative obscurity outside of their scene, Swans returned in the late 2000’s and quickly set out on a trio of albums that have redefined their image and won them fans from an entirely new generation.

Swans has always been a volatile act in terms of their lineup, and this aspect has not changed since their recent reformation. Following the close of the trilogy of albums The Seer, To Be Kind, and The Glowing Man, frontman Michael Gira announced that Swans would be leaving its current iteration (that trilogy of albums marked the most consistent period of time in Swans’ history) and moving into a new realm of sound.

The first of these new era albums, Leaving Meaning, released in late October of 2019 and while it didn’t soar to the heights of the aforementioned trilogy it approached similar material with a softer hand which presented us with an interestingly multifaceted look into the twisted mind of Gira himself.

Beyond their recent, excellent studio exploits, Swans is known for their madness inducing live shows that perfectly compliment the blistering sonic profile of their music. If you want to get an up close and personal look at this wild show be sure to swing by the Regent Theater on 6/9 (nice) for a descent into madness.
