In an unprecedented move by shock rocker Marylin Manson, he has just released his second consecutive cover this time it is of The Doors’ hauntingly harrowing classic “The End.” According to Consequence of Sound, “The Antichrist Superstar’s version of ‘The End’ comes one month after he unveiled a cover of the traditional folk tune ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down.’ Manson previously revealed that he was recording a cover of ‘The End’ for the Stephen King miniseries The Stand, in which he’ll also star. The upcoming series is set to air on CBS All Access.”

For his version of “The End” the baritone crooning industrial rock stylings complements well with Manson’s signature haunting sound. As every bit faithful to the original track’s lyrics, with a slight modification to the closing original’s spoken word, the updated version also retains the trippy psychedelic vibe of The Doors’ haunting track. The modern take also includes electronic elements that has Manson toying with vocals adding reverb and autotune, where in contrast The Doors’ Morrison recording contains his clean baritone vocals. As previously mentioned in the aforementioned Consequence of Sound article, “The shock rocker takes the already haunting track and adds a level of creepiness to it. The rasp and crackle to his voice contrasts with the clean baritone of Jim Morrison in the original. Manson also adds a little more profanity to Morrison’s famous ‘Father … I want to kill you’ spoken word lines toward the end of the song.” Manson’s ‘The End’ also comes complete with a visual of one of Manson’s very own watercolor paintings.

With an impending album release from Manson, it is unclear if either of the two newly released cover tracks will be included in Manson’s yet titled forthcoming eleventh studio album, hopefully surfacing sometime next year. Manson’s last full length studio album was 2017’s Heaven Upside Down, via Loma Vista Recordings/Caroline. The aforementioned Consequence of Sound article concludes that, “The singer has been working on a new LP with producer Shooter Jennings, and had originally hoped to release the album this year.”
