Given the incredible size and population density of Los Angeles it should come as no surprise that so many excellent musicians come from this city. But even beyond that there is a new sound and attitude rising from its concrete walls. In the past that sound was the blending of funk, hip-hop and rock as pioneered by groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but now the new punk mantle is being picked up by together PANGEA.
together PANGEA originated from the fringes of Los Angeles county in Santa Clarita but now sees the city proper as it’s home base. Their rough, slick style quickly found fans in the underground punk community where their sharp songwriting provided them an opportunity to break out from the underground and into the sunlight.
Since becoming known, they have toured with groups like Wavves and Best Coast, clear inspirations on their musical style, and have opened themselves up to a whole new generation of fans. On February 9th they head to La Santa with support from Tropa Magica and Reckling as they play their hometown. I know that most angelenos would prefer to sit at home and watch TV rather than drive all the way out to Santa Ana but this is a show worth the drive.
