The Hi Hat announces Daniel Johnston Birthday Bash Tribute set for 1/21

It seems silly to assert that September 11th was a sad day. Yes of course in the larger sense it is one of the more tragic days in American, and ultimately world history that beyond the immediate impact and loss of life would go on to start a cycle of chaos and destruction the world over. But September 11th this year was sad for another reason entirely, the world lost a legend in Daniel Johnston, a singular voice who can never be replaced, but one that we should certainly celebrate.
Johnston was always an openly kept secret among people in the know. His music was uniquely poetic and honest in a way that most artists hope to be. His lyrics were thoroughly open and unshackled by the weight of metaphor and falsehood. Luckily, despite his strange personality, oft unhinged countenance and demeanor, and overall lack of approachability, Johnston’s musical prowess went on to inspire a generation of lyricists and musicians.
On January 21st, numerous unannounced artists who were inspired by Johnston’s work will take the stage at the Hi Hat, one of Southern California’s best small venues to pay homage to the artist who gave us all so much. Tickets have yet to be announced but be sure to keep an eye open on the Hi Hat’s calendar for more information as it becomes available. You may not be able to catch Johnston anymore but the legacy he left behind is going to define a generation, perhaps it already has.
Location: The Hi Hat
Address: 5043 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042
